What i”ve realised since I started writing is that when you get a flash of an idea, you need to write it down immediately. If you don’t it’ll vanish into the ether, never to be seen again. You always think you’ll remember it but you seldom do.
Last night, in the middle of the night, I woke up with an idea. It was a mere seed of an idea but I knew that unless I got it down there and then, it would disappear, so I switched on my light, punched a few words into my phone, forgot about them and went to sleep. I discovered them the next day. It was a nice feeling as I’d totally forgotten that I’d even used my phone.
This harnessing of ideas, tying them down as it were, is merely the first step. The next is to jump straight in and write the story. I’ve kind of come to realise that as soon as you’ve got the idea, you have to write the story and not stop until it’s done. It’s all too easy to stop and correct what you’ve written, or change a few words for others, but if you do this in the early stages, it’s likely that you’ll mess up the flow. I firmly believe that you need to get the story down, as stopping will affect the quality of it. It’s tempting to correct as you go along but I don’t believe it’s the way to do it.
You are wise, and I hope to follow your advice. My problem has never been ideas, but follow through. And I think that you have the right idea. Feed the energy of the idea instead of storing it for another day!

I wish I was as wise as my words! I’m really trying now to get things down as soon as they come to me, and I did so last night at 3 am when I couldn’t sleep – managed to write a short story today so it kind of worked.. not always easy though .. 🙂

I woke up at 2:54 this morning to the sound of rain. It felt like words.
But really, I just left the window open and a storm came through, and I had paper, and my pen went missing, so I let it go. But the line, It felt like words, came to me in the shower. I think it has something to do with daily blogging. Which is exhausting, but … fun!

I do the same thing. I send text messages to myself and make notes everywhere and anywhere lol

I think it’s the best way. I just find it difficult coming back to my notes and turning them into something!

Lol I find that sometimes too. Try writing a few sentences and keywords instead of only a couple words

Once again I totally agree with you. I had to learn the hard way by losing some ideas. Now I have a lot scribbled on the notes in my phone. One day I may even have the time to follow them and the stubbornness to finish them. 😁
